Contract quotes for 4GB DDR3 modules are likely to surge another 10% after the Lunar New Year holidays from the current levels of around US$18
Strong demand for mobile RAM from the smartphone sector has consumed a large portion of standard DRAM capacity, pushing PC makers to seek sufficient supplies of memory chips from DRAM module makers.
However, most memory module makers are reluctant to offer quotes due to tight capacity, said the sources, adding that most module suppliers are simply waiting for another round of price hikes.
Meanwhile, increasing demand for DRAM chips from PC makers has pushed spot prices of 2Gb DDR3 to US$1.40 recently and prices could go up to US$1.50 after the week-long Lunar New Year holiday which begins on February 9, said the sources.
