Lenovo to become largest Notebook maker

Monday, February 11, 2013

Lenovo is likely to ship the most notebooks in the global market during the first quarter of 2013, according to estimates by Taiwan-based supply chain makers .

Lenovo and Asustek Computer are expected to see their notebook shipments in the first quarter of 2013 increase by up to 5% on quarter, while Hewlett-Packard (HP), Dell and Toshiba are expected to see sequential decreases of 20% and Acer will see a drop of 15-20%, the sources said

However, HP is expected to continue its lead for the whole year of 2013 by shipping an estimated 35 million notebooks, while Lenovo will ship 30-31 million units, the sources indicated. HP was the largest notebook vendor in 2012 with shipments of 32 million units and Lenovo ranked second by shipping nearly 30 million units, the sources noted.

As Dell is expected to gradually decrease its PC business operations after privatization, HP stands a chance of taking over a large portion of Dell's notebook sales in North America, the sources pointed out
