Acer plans to significantly raise its R&D and marketing funds for 2013 with such investment' share of revenues to gradually increase from 0.6-0.8% in 2012 to 1.2-1.5% by the fourth quarter of 2013, according to company president Jim Wong.
Acer had non-consolidated revenues of NT$359.89 billion (US$12.13 billion) in 2012, and the company's R&D and marketing budgets for 2013 are expected to increase by at least NT$4 billion.
In 2013, Acer said it will continue inviting celebrities to endorse its products, but will place most of its marketing resources on consumers.
As for its product plan, Acer is set to launch its first-generation Phoneblet in the second half and will release a second-generation one in early 2014 with many design changes. The company will also release its third-generation Chromebook in the second half.
The PC industry will still be the major market segment for Acer in the future and the company will use its Acercloud platform to provide additional value to its clients. Compared to Google's, Amazon's and Apple's cloud computing services, Acer's service is more personal oriented and the company will strive for Big Data business opportunity when the timing is right, Wong added.
