AMD on March 12 launched Richland, a new APU equipped with a Radeon HD 8000 graphics core. The APU is superior to AMD's Trinity APU in graphics and computing performance, and power management, according to Taiwan-based notebook and component makers.
The Richland-based APUs feature a 32nm process and adopt AMD's Piledriver architecture. The platform also features AllDay Power technology to extend power longevity.
AMD pointed out that Richland-based notebooks will start appearing in retail channels in March and ultra-thin notebooks with low-power Richland APUs will be released in the first half of the year.
In the second half, AMD plans to release its 28nm Steamroller-based APUs, featuring HAS application.
