Semiconductor Manufacturing International (SMIC), China's top chipmaker, has announced that VP of North Operations Haijun Zhao has been appointed chief operating officer effective April 25, 2013.
In his new position, Zhao will oversee SMIC's overall manufacturing operations, the company indicated.
Zhao joined SMIC in 2010. Prior to SMIC, Zhao served as VP for technology development of product engineering and the Greater China business at ProMOS Technologies.
In other news, SMIC swung to net profits of US$40.6 million in the first quarter of 2013 from losses of US$42.82 million a year ago. Consolidated revenues for the quarter climbed to US$501.6 million - the fourth consecutive quarter of record sales.
