LG Electronics will reportedly procure 55-inch Ultra HD TV panels from AU Optronics (AUO), with shipments expected to begin as early as May 2013.

LG has plans to mass produce Ultra HD TV panel technology but is not expected to do so until the end of 2013, said the sources. Until then, the company still has plans to release Ultra HD TV units while it continues developing its OLED TV technology and will look to AUO for Ultra HD TV panels sized 55-inch as well as possibly 65-inch units, added the sources.

Samsung Electronics has also expressed interest in purchasing 65-inch Ultra HD TV panels from AUO, the sources noted.

Meanwhile, the sources also said that Innolux Corporation is assessing whether to produce 85-inch Ultra HD TV panels, and believes it will ship about two million Ultra HD TV panels in 2013.

Global Ultra HD TV panel shipments are expected to reach around four million units in 2013, according to market observers.
