Samsung keep breaking sales record on Smartphone

Tuesday, May 28, 2013

Samsung has set a new record by selling 12.5 million smartphones in the first three months of 2013, and continues to dominate the world's most populous country for the fifth time in a row, according to the latest data from Strategy Analytics, a U.S. market research firm. Samsung's 12.5 million sales in China in its first quarter accounts for 18.5 percent market share which has been increased by 2.2 percent points from last quarter.

According to the report, Samsung is not only the leader in the smartphone market, but also gained highest profit from the Androind smartphones last quarter. Samsung has generated more profit from the Android platform than Google itself, according to Neil Mawston, Executive Director at Strategy Analytics. Samsung grabbed 95 percent of the total profits gained by global Android smartphones which totals up to $5.1 billion from $5.3 billion, last quarter. Samsung ruled out its competitors in 2012 by selling 30.06 million devices throughout the year, which is almost three times the sales in 2011, according to CNet report.

"We estimate Samsung's Android smartphone shipments generated US$5.1 billion of operating profit worldwide in Q1 2013. Samsung captured a huge 95 percent share of all Android smartphone industry profits, Woody Oh, Senior Analyst at Strategy Analytics, said in a statement. "An efficient supply chain, sleek products and crisp marketing have been among the main drivers of Samsung's impressive profitability. LG followed in second place and took 3 percent global profit share. LG delivered a small profit during the quarter, but it currently lacks the volume scale needed to match Samsung's outsized profits."

As Samsung remains the undefeated leader in the China's market, other smartphone makers also sold immensely. China's Huawei sold 8.1 million smartphones in the first quarter, while the third and the forth position was taken by Lenovo with 7.9 million and China's Coolpad with 7 million, repectively. Furthermore, ZTE sold 6.4 million units in Q1. Apple was not in a close competition with Samsung in the Chinese market as it sold 6.1 million units.

However, Apple continues to hold the record of selling the maximum iPhone 5 units in the first month of its launch. Samsung sold 10 million Galaxy S4 units in the first month, while Apple had sold 5 million in the first weekend of sales and 47 million in the first quarter.

Samsung galaxy S4 will be available across 155 countries in support with 327 partners.
