Gigabyte Technology expects to achieve shipments of five million motherboards in the second quarter and a sequential growth of over 15% in the third quarter due to a competitor having major design flaws in its new motherboard products, allowing Gigabyte to step ahead and sell its products earlier in retail channels, according to company vice president Alexander Ma.
Gigabyte is expected to ship a total of around 10 million motherboards in the first half of the year and should successfully ship over 20 million units in 2013, helping the company to get very close to industry leader Asustek Computer, which is expected to ship 22-24 million motherboards in 2013, according to market watchers.
Gigabyte's shipment ratio for the first and second halves of 2013 is expected to reach 45:55.
Gigabyte announced revenues of NT$3.99 billion (US$133.55 million) for May, up 15.08% on month. The company shipped 1.45-1.55 million motherboards and 250,000-300,000 graphics cards in the month and is expected to ship 3.4-3.5 million graphics cards in 2013.
Currently, the brand motherboard business accounts for 60% of the company's revenues, the brand graphics card business 20%, the handset and the notebook businesses together 10% and the server and the telecommunication businesses together 10%.
For the tablet market, Gigabyte is mainly focusing on 10- and 11-inch models currently and is also observing demand for 8-inch models.
