Intel may step out of the brand server motherboard business in the second half and the vacated demand is expected to boost shipments from Taiwan-based motherboard brand vendors such as Asustek Computer and Gigabyte Technology.
Intel's departure from the brand desktop motherboard business has been expected to open up demand for about 4-5 million motherboards a year and the volume will be even higher if it also quits the server motherboard business.
The sources pointed out that it is just a matter of time for Intel to give up its server motherboard business since the company has been reducing its resources and manpower invested in the channel motherboard industry.
Intel's brand server motherboards are mainly shipped to small regional brands worldwide or consumers with demand. Intel has responded that it remains committed to the server motherboard business.
