Inventec eye 30 million PC-products shipment in 2014

Friday, June 14, 2013

Inventec aims to ship 20 million notebooks and other PC-related products in 2013 and expects shipments to increase 50% to 30 million units in 2014 as the company will start shipping new tablets in the fourth quarter of 2013, while its thin-client and all-in-one PC businesses will both enjoy shipment growth, according to company chairman Richard Lee.

Currently, the notebook business contributes about 55% of Inventec's revenues, tablet, thin-client and all-in-one PC businesses together about 11%, servers about 20-25%, Inventec Appliance 10% and solar about 2%.

Inventec Appliance, a telecommunications product manufacturing subsidiary of Inventec, is expected to ship 30 million products in 2013 and see 20% growth in 2014. The subsidiary is currently focusing on developing wearable products to combine with its medical cloud system for a complete solution.

Since Inventec Appliance's products have better gross margins compared to Inventec's other product lines, the company's growing performance is expected to benefit Inventec in profits.

As for the solar business, because of China's surging solar capacity, Inventec is currently seeing losses from related investments. However, since the European Union (EU) has already imposed anti-dumping duties against China's solar industry, Inventec's investments may turn profitable in 2014.

Inventec achieved net profits of NT$1.78 billion (US$59.43 million) for the first quarter, a growth of 303% on year, and had a gross margin of 4.91%. For the second quarter, Inventec expects flat profit performance with a gross margin similar to that of the first quarter.
