FPGA chip provider Xilinx has begun producing 20nm programmable logic devices (PLDs) and all programmable devices at Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company (TSMC), according to industry sources.
Optimizing Xilinx's UltraScale architecture, the 20nm process can be extended to TSMC's 16nm FinFET process, as well as from SoC to 3D chips, the sources noted.
Xilinx and TSMC are jointly undertaking a "FinFast" project, aiming to roll out 16nm FinFET test chips later in 2013 and to begin volume production in 2014, the sources noted.
