Wednesday, July 10, 2013

Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company (TSMC) and United Microelectronics (UMC) have reported mixed revenue results for June 2013, but both IC foundries' second-quarter sales came in at the high end of their target ranges.

TSMC has announced June consolidated revenues of NT$54.03 billion (US$1.8 billion), up 4.3% on month and 24.3% on year. TSMC's cumulative 2013 sales increased 23.5% from a year ago to NT$288.64 billion.

June 2013 marked the third consecutive month of record sales for TSMC. The company collected NT$155.89 billion in second-quarter consolidated revenues, up 17.4% sequentially, which came within its guidance range of NT$154-156 billion.

June consolidated revenues at UMC decreased to NT$10.76 billion, down slightly from NT$10.86 billion in the prior month. Sales for the second quarter of 2013 amounted to NT$31.9 billion, nearly a 15% increase on quarter.

UMC previously guided for a 12-14% sequential shipment increase in the second quarter with flat growth in ASPs. The firm did not provide a revenue estimate.

TSMC and UMC will detail their second-quarter operations and guidance for the third quarter at their respective investors meetings on July 18 and August 7.
