Powertech Technology (PTI) may inject another NT$1 billion (US$33.41 million) for capacity ramps in the second half of 2013 after already spending NT$7 billion in the first half, according to company chairman DK Tsai.
Demand for NAND flash devices will remain strong in the third quarter of 2013, while more IC design houses in Taiwan and China have adopted PTI's copper pillar bump technology, Tsai indicated.
NAND flash revenues, for the first time, surpassed DRAM revenues, accounting for 36% of PTI's total sales in the second quarter, Tsai said, adding that by the end of 2013, revenues generated from DRAM, NAND flash and logic IC testing lines will account for 28-30%, 35-37% and 35%, respectively, of total sales.
PTI will have more production capacity to handle testing of NAND flash chips in the second half of 2013 as the company has shifted more of its testing facilities from commodity DRAM to NAND flash, Tsai noted.
