Winbond, Macronix July sales up slightly

Winbond Electronics and Macronix International have reported sequential increases in July revenues of 0.4% and 1.4%, respectively.

Compared to a year ago, Winbond's consolidated revenues for July 2013 declined 5.9% to NT$2.86 billion (US$95.4 million). Accumulated sales for January to July came to NT$19.38 billion, down 1.1% from the same period of 2012.

Winbond manufactures specialty DRAM, mobile DRAM and NOR flash chips. The firm reported net profits for the second quarter of 2013, ending a string of six consecutive quarterly losses.

Macronix announced July consolidated revenues of NT$1.81 billion. Sales for the first seven months of 2013 amounted to NT$11.44 billion, a decrease of 16.5% compared to the same period of 2012.

Macronix specializes in NOR flash and mask ROM chips. The firm, which experienced its sixth consecutive quarterly loss in the second quarter of 2013, expects to return to profitability in the third quarter.
