Nexus 4 smartphone sold out

Wednesday, September 18, 2013

If you were hoping to get your hands on a Nexus 4 smartphone, you might be waiting for awhile. The device is currently sold out online, lending credence to the rumors that the Nexus 5 is upon us.

The listings for the 8GB and 16GB Nexus 4 smartphones on Google Play are currently accompanied by a note that says: "We are out of inventory. Please check back soon."

The news suggests that a next-gen Nexus device - likely the Nexus 5 - will be revealed soon. As 9to5Google pointed out, the promotional video for Google's newest version of Android, KitKat, includes a quick shot of two Google employees taking photos with an unreleased Nexus device that most assume is the Nexus 5.

KitKat was announced earlier this month and is largely expected to be released sometime in October, a date that coincides with the five-year anniversary of the launch of the T-Mobile G1, the first Android-based device.

Yesterday, 9to5Google also posted images of what it says is a Nexus device from LG running KitKat, as well as a video (below) that was shot after a Google employee reportedly left the device unattended at a bar (yes, seriously).

Advertisement The Nexus 5 reportedly runs a 2.3GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 quad-core processor and sports a 16-megapixel camera, PC Advisor said. There are differing opinions about how large the Nexus 5 will be; rumors run from 4.5 inches to 5 inches to 5.2 inches.

The Nexus 4 was unveiled in Oct. 2012 and features a 4.7-inch, 1,280-by-768 display with 320 pixels per inch. For more, see PCMag's review.
