Pegatron Technology will be responsible for ODM production of an 8-inch Windows 8 tablet expected to be unveiled by Dell in early October, according to Taiwan-based supply chain makers.
Dell will announce the new tablet in early October in New York, the US, targeting mainly the enterprise market, the sources said.
Prior to Dell, Acer already released an 8-inch tablet, the Iconia W3, using Intel's dual-core Atom 2760 processor, Toshiba also has a Windows-based 8-inch tablet, the Encore. Asustek Computer's MeMO Pad 8 also features an 8-inch display, but uses Android operating system.
Several market watchers originally expected 8-inch tablets to stand a chance of replacing 7-inch ones, but some panel suppliers have pointed out that the small difference between the two size segments does not offer enough incentives for choosing more expensive 8-inch tablets.
