Intel offer US$1 billion incentives to promote tablet processors in 2014

Wednesday, November 27, 2013

Intel will offer marketing subsidies of US$1 billion to encourage tablet vendors to adopt its processors in 2014 and thereby aims to ship 60 million tablet processors for the year, almost 10 times the estimated 6-7 million units for 2013, according to Taiwan-based supply chain makers.

Currently, Intel is offering its Bay Trail-T and Bay Trail-M processors for over US$20, but the sources said that some large brand vendors are able to acquire pricing below US$10 and Intel is said to also provide its mobile communication chips for free to help lower vendors' costs. However, Intel Taiwan has denied such offers.

Intel Taiwan indicated that Intel's 2014 target shipments for tablet processors are 40 million units.
