Asustek Computer and Toshiba both have also decided to
introduce Chromebooks with Intel's Haswell processors in 2014. Acer will pioneer all brand
vendors to launch its 11.6-inch Chromebook C720P, priced at US$299, in
December 2013, the sources indicated. Asustek will
launch Chromebooks in 2014 with the first wave of models to come in
11.6- and 13.3-inch sizes, company CEO Jerry Shen revealed recently.
Prices of Asustek's Chromebooks are likely to range US$199-329,
indicated the sources. Toshiba is expected to release
its Chromebooks soon, noted the sources, adding that the Japan-based
vendor is outsourcing production to Inventec. Shipments
of Chromebooks, including the Chromebook Pixel launched by Google,
account for less than 5% of total global notebook shipments currently,
the sources estimated.
