MS/Nokia merger runs into Chinese government review

Thursday, December 26, 2013

Patent issues are being blamed for slowing Chinese-government-approval of a deal between Microsoft and Nokia.

Microsoft's move to acquire Nokia's handset business has already cleared regulatory hurdles in the US and Europe.

It is believed the delay here is connected to complaints by Chinese phone makers who contend they'll be subjected to higher patent fees once the deal is done.

Microsoft and Nokia still expect the deal to close sometime in the first quarter.

For more on the deal CRI's Paul James earlier spoke with Benjamin Cavendar, Associate Principal at Shanghai Market Research.
