Nanya's December sale up by 8%

Tuesday, January 7, 2014 DRAM chipmaker Nanya Technology saw its December sales increase 8.4% sequentially. Sales for all of 2013 totaled NT$46.95 billion (US$1.56 billion), rising 38.6% from 2012 levels. Nanya revealed that shipments grew 10% sequentially in December, while product ASPs fell by a slight 2% on month. The firm expects its product quotes to stay flat or rise modestly in the first quarter of 2014. Nanya added that prices for its products used in servers, games consoles and consumer electronics applications, as well as its low-power chips, already rallied significantly in October and November, followed by a slight correction in December. Nanya noted that the company is looking to expand its market share in 2014 after transforming itself successfully into a specialty DRAM supplier. Once known as a supplier of PC DRAM memory, Nanya has shifted its corporate focus to specialty DRAM and other niche-market memory chips. Nanya swung to net profits in the first quarter of 2013, after 12 consecutive quarters of losses, and has remained profitable since. The company is scheduled to hold its quarterly investors meeting on January 28 to discuss its performance in the fourth quarter of 2013, and provide its business outlook for 2014.
