Lenovo is likely to ship 28.3 million notebooks in 2014, followed by Hewlett-Packard (HP) with 28.0 million, Dell 18-19 million, and Acer and Asustek Computer 16-17 million each, according to estimates by Taiwan-based supply chain makers based on preliminary orders received from the vendors.
While Lenovo surpassed HP in notebook shipments to become the largest vendor in the second quarter of 2013 and continued to lead in the third quarter, HP regained first ranking with shipments of 7.6 million notebooks in the fourth quarter, followed by Lenovo with 7.2 million units, Dell 5.2 million, Acer 4.6 million and Asustek 4.5 million, the sources said.
While Lenovo dominates China's notebook market, HP has the largest notebook market share in North America, and the business-use segment, the sources indicated. In addition, HP has won several government projects to procure education-use notebooks in North America and India, the sources noted.
