HTC to launch next generation Nexus 10

Monday, February 10, 2014 HTC reportedly will team up with Google again and will jointly launch the next-generation Nexus 10 tablet. The speculation comes as a surprise to the industry since HTC's smartphone business has been stagnant, and the global growth momentum for tablets has begun to slow down, the sources noted. Sales of HTC's first 7-inch Flyer tablet launched in the first half of 2011 and its first 10-inch Jetstream launched in late 2011 were poor due largely to bad pricing strategies and a lack of killer applications, forcing the smartphone vendor to retreat from the tablet market, revealed the sources. HTC reportedly also turned down Google's proposal to jointly launch the Nexus 7 in 2012, forcing Google to tie up with Asustek Computer for its first 7-inch tablet, which turned out to be rather successful, noted the sources. Given that Samsung and Google have also failed to ramp up shipments of the original Google Nexus 10, it would be a difficult task for HTC to deliver a turnaround with the new Nexus 10, the sources commented.
