T-Mobile Offers BlackBerry Users $100 Credit After Split

Friday, April 4, 2014

Though BlackBerry and T-Mobile are in the midst of a bitter divorce, T-Mobile wants the BlackBerry faithful to know that it still cares by offering a $100 credit.

After a rather public spat, BlackBerry recently declined to renew T-Mobile's seller license, meaning the carrier won't be getting any new gadgets from the Canadian phone maker once it exhausts its current supply. But T-Mobile CEO John Legere wants current BlackBerry users to know that they don't have to leave the un-carrier.

"If you're already with T-Mobile, you can continue to count on us for the great service you've come to expect, the regular OS updates, and, of course, America's fastest nationwide 4G LTE network," Legere said in a note to customers. "None of that changes as far as we're concerned."

As an extra incentive and a show of "our appreciation for all current consumers so passionate and loyal to all things BlackBerry," Legere announced that BlackBerry users can take advantage of a $100 credit, which can be used toward any new device, including BlackBerry's lineup of touch-screen handsets, like the Q10 and Z10 (pictured), while supplies last.

The offer is available through the end of the year, so you can hang on to your current BlackBerry for a few more months.

The battle between T-Mobile and BlackBerry began when T-Mobile ran a promotion that encouraged BlackBerry users to switch to the Apple iPhone. That didn't sit too well with BlackBerry CEO John Chen, who publicly blasted the carrier in a blog post. T-Mobile apologized, but the damage was done, and BlackBerry ended its relationship with T-Mobile shortly thereafter.

Now that the firms have split, Legere guaranteed continued support for BlackBerry owners. "One thing you can count on from us: we'll keep listening to your and finding new ways to meet the needs of BlackBerry users—individuals and businesses—everywhere. But we're not done," he said.

"Stay tuned for another Un-carrier offer that gives you more value and even more reasons to stay with America's fastest growing wireless company," Legere added.
