SK hynix, the semiconductor affiliate of SK Group, seeks to expand its client base in China.

On Wednesday, SK hynix said it held a "2014 SK hynix Mobile Solution Day" in Shenzhen, China, a move aimed at finding new business opportunities amid increased penetration of high-end mobile devices in the neighboring country.

More than 300 company and industry officials participated as the event was targeted only for its trusted clients and future partners, according to SK hynix in a statement.

"This event is the first time that we displayed our mobile chip solutions to be used in premium smartphones and other mobile devices in China. All of our key clients from Huawei, ZTE, Coolpad, China Mobile, Qualcomm and MediaTek participated," said SK hynix spokeswoman Park Seong-ae.

She said the event will help the chipmaker strengthen strategic alliances with more Chinese clients.

She added that its presentation on strategies to effectively meet with growing demand for mobile chip solutions received a positive response from the participants.

It displayed a 8-gigabit LPDDR3 DRAM chip, which SK hynix developed for the first time in the industry; and the 4-gigabit LPDDR2 DRAM, a patented eMMC 5.0 flash-type chip.

The chipmaker is shifting its focus to mobile DRAMs and flash-type chips amid the rising demand for smart devices which use those chip solutions as primary backbones.

"As the most undervalued memory maker, SK hynix is very well positioned to reap profits as we enter this next leg of the DRAM structural recovery. We also take comfort in the fact that the very weak NAND business only accounts for a very small portion of profits," said Bernstein Research in a note to clients.

SK hynix runs a huge chip factory in Wuxi, Jiangsu Province, with substantial administrative and financial support from the Chinese government. Based on the increased confidence, it's been diversifying its portfolio.
