Oscium has brought test tools to mobile devices with a dual analogue iOS oscilloscope that comes with native Lightning compatibility.
The iMSO-204L transforms the fifth generation iPad, iPhone, and iPod touch into an ultra-portable, two-channel oscilloscope. Oscium also released a Lightning adapter so that the earlier 30-pin version can be used with the latest iOS devices.
The hardware features two analogue and four digital channels, sampling at 50MSPS, with a 5MHz bandwidth and scaling at the range of 200ns/div to 10s/div. The corresponding software, named 'iMSO2', is available for free download at the Apple app store.
The iMSO2 app leverages the user interface of iOS devices. Waveforms can be paused, and zoomed by pinching—the way it is done on a picture. Analogue trigger position can be changed with a simple swipe across the screen.
Oscium describes the app as intuitive, which means engineers can spend more time debugging than fumbling with an oscilloscope interface. It supports single-shot waveform capture and provides immediate feedback while zooming in on the horizontal and vertical scales.
The AirPlay compatibility also adds an interesting feature to the oscilloscope—display can be mirrored onto compatible projectors for live demonstrations.
The iMSO-204 hardware can be purchased for $399.97 from Oscium directly.
