NAND flash controller IC vendors Phison Electronics and Silicon Motion Technology have reportedly landed SSD controller chip orders from Toshiba and Lite-On Technology, respectively, according to industry sources.
Toshiba's first SSD controller chip orders to Phison total about one million units, with all ICs to be shipped in the fourth quarter of 2014, said the sources, adding that Phison and Toshiba will continue to cooperate in 2015.
Phison has been shipping SSD devices to memory module makers, system producers and channel operators and is also targeting to ship its SSD controller ICs to SK Hynix, said the sources.
It is also a major breakthrough for Silicon Motion to land SSD controller IC orders from Lite-On, which had been buying controller chips mainly from Marvell Technology previously, revealed the sources.
Lite-On will pair Silicon Motion's SSD controller chips with SK Hynix's NAND flash chips and ship its SSD solutions to OEMs, said the sources.
