Allwinner Technology announced its latest octa-core H8 SoC aimed at high-end gaming and video OTT box markets. Based on TSMC's 28nm HPC process, the device offers premium system performance with low heat, allowing ODMs/OEMs to manufacture OTT boxes at competitive BOM costs.
According to the company, the H8 octa-core features an 8-core Cortex-A7 CPU architecture, running at up to 2GHz, with eight cores able to run simultaneously. It also has a PowerVR SGX544 GPU that runs at up to 700MHz, with support for OpenGL ES 2.0/1.1, OpenCL 1.1 APIs and outstanding graphics for gaming and UI effects.
Multimedia-wise, the SoC offers support for multi-format 1080p@60fps video processing, as well as H.265/HEVC format. Additionally, it has an integrated 8M image signal processor, and boasts Allwinner's latest SmartColor technology to deliver higher image quality and better visual effects. Moreover, the octa-core processor can support HDMI 1080P at 60fps, with HDCP 2.0 and HDMI CEC support.
The H8 octa-core touts high system integration, according to the company, indicating support for a USB Host, USB dual-role, 1000Mb/s Ethernet MAC and three SD/MMC controllers.
H8-based OTT boxes are scheduled to hit the market in the fourth quarter of 2014.
