Friday, November 14, 2014

Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company's (TSMC) board of directors has approved plans to spend US$5.57 billion to expand both advanced and mainstream technology capacities, and convert certain logic capacity to specialty technologies.

The funds will also be used to expand TSMC's fab and office buildings, and enhance R&D, according to a company statement.

TSMC said previously its capex for 2015 will exceed US$10 billion, compared with an estimated US$9.6 billion for 2014.

In other news, TSMC has filed an announcement with the Taiwan Stock Exchange (TSE) on the purchase of equipment, worth a total of about NT$10.26 billion (US$335.15 million), from cleanroom constructor United Information Systems (UIS) and lithography system vendor ASML.
