Ohneka Farms is presently engaged in a fund-raising campaign on Indiegogo to raise $75,000 on an experimental hydroponics solution that uses smart LED lighting to support plant growth. The US-based design studio focusing on organic foods has developed the ROOT gardening system that features an automated smart LED lighting and watering system that takes care of plants.

The LED light bathes the plants from above, and it can auto-adjust its brightness to match surrounding light conditions. A sensor will monitor the water level and tell you when to refill.

ROOT is a space-efficient, easy-to-use gardening system that can grow up to 16 vegetables, herbs or flowers, the company indicated. All you need to do is plug in and sync ROOT via a smartphone app and then add water, plants and nutrients.

ROOT contains an automated smart LED lighting and watering system that takes care of your plants for you. ROOT grows hydroponically, without soil claims to provide faster and more efficient plant growth without the mess. ROOT's sensors are integrated to adjust to lighting in your environment. The plants will grow in small containers called ROOT Pods that hold your plants' roots in place. The app will sync with your ROOT so you receive notifications and alerts when your ROOT needs water or nutrients.
