Singapore to build semi fab infastructure for multiple tanents

Friday, January 16, 2015

Singapore's industrial estate provider JTC is building a new facility to house the production of specialized semiconductors.

Announced on Wednesday, the new nanoSpace @ Tampines will bee a four-storey multi-tenanted site to be located in the eastern part of the island at Tampines Hi-Tech Park. The building will contain features specifically designed to support chip production including specialty chemical storage and waste-water treatment plants, and centralized utilities such as bulk gases and chilled water.

Accessing these shared utilities can help its tenants cut upfront capital costs by up to 20 percent and operational costs by 10 to 15 percent, JTC said in a report by local broadcaster Channel NewsAsia.

The facility, slated for completion in 2017, will provide semiconductor manufacturers with the option to start with small production units before scaling up their capacities in the future.

Citing JTC, the report said Singapore's semiconductor industry was the largest segment in the electronics industry, accounting for more than 50 percent of the overall market and generating 43,000 jobs.
