OnePlus One smartphone has its own OS

Monday, February 2, 2015

The company OnePlus posted a teaser on its Weibo page recently showing a periodic table, alongside the company tagline "Never Settle” and the timing 10:00 AM. This clueless teaser created a buzz among the tech world. As it turns out, OnePlus is gearing up to introduce its own ROM on Feb. 12. Apparently, the new operating system dubbed, the OxygenOS, will reportedly provide a daring, powerful and straight-forward user experience.

Most importantly, the OxygenOS will reportedly be open and heavily customisable. Additionally, this OS version will reportedly be free of bloatware and features that are not required or hardly used. In December 2014, the company officially stated that, it’s working on its own ROM and it even conducted a contest to suggest a name for the OS. Also, the lucky person that suggested the OS name “Oxygen” will soon be on a jet to Shenzhen, China and will return home with a free 64 GB storage clad, Sandston Black coloured OnePlus One smartphone, notes Phone Arena.

“As an element, Oxygen is the epitome of simplicity, yet it’s also extraordinarily powerful,” says the company blog on the name selection. It is worth reminding that, the OnePlus One smartphone runs on Android based CyanogenMod OS. However, Cyanogen team stuck an exclusive deal with Micromax, an Indian OEM, to spearhead a series of inexpensive Micromax handsets. And because of this exclusive deal, the Cyanogen powered OnePlus One faced legal issues in India, says the same site.

Furthermore, OnePlus’ OxygenOS will reportedly be an optional installation. On Feb. 12, the entire world would know what is in store inside the OxygenOS. Will it be able to provide the stock Android experience? Can it beat the CynaogenMod OS? All these questions will be answered when the curtains go up on Feb. 12.

On the other hand, the OnePlus One successor, the OnePlus Two has been making waves from December 2014. And reportedly, this device will feature a 5.5-inch display, complemented by 1,440 x 2,560 pixels resolution. Under the hood, the phone will reportedly be powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 805 SoC. Other speculated specifications include a 16 MP primary camera, 5 MP selfie camera, 32 GB of native storage and 3300 mAh battery unit. If reports are true, the OnePlus Two will also support dual-SIM and microSD card, says Phone Arena.
