Samsung has reportedly received around 20 million pre-orders for its recently launched Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 Edge smartphones from mobile carriers.
According to Korea Times, a top Samsung executive confirmed the numbers at MWC last week, and said, "Samsung received some 20 million pre-orders for the S6 and S6 Edge - 15 million of S6 and five million of the S6 Edge from mobile carriers, worldwide. This is the record."
While the report doesn't reveal the name of the official, it notes that the overall impressions of the two new Galaxy smartphones are positive.
On the same lines, Samsung Electronics mobile chief Shin Jong-kyun had also told Korean reporters that the initial response of the Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 Edge is far better than the Galaxy S5.
"To be honest, pre-orders of the two Galaxy variants from our major clients are really huge," Shin told (via Korea Times) reporters.
Last week, Samsung Netherlands had officially revealed the pricing of the two smartphones and started taking pre-orders as well. The website only listed the 32GB variant of the Galaxy S6 for EUR 699 (approximately Rs. 48,300) and the Galaxy S6 Edge at EUR 849 (approximately Rs. 58,600).
While there is no official pricing available for the other 64GB and 128GB variants of the Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 Edge, a report from last week claimed that Samsung will keep a EUR 799 (approximately Rs. 55,200) price tag for the 64GB variant of Galaxy S6 and EUR 899 (approximately Rs. 62,100) for the 128GB variant.
The Galaxy S6 Edge curved screen variant's 64GB model is said to cost EUR 949 (approximately Rs. 65,600), and the 128GB model EUR 1,049 (approximately Rs. 72,500).
The US carriers' on-contract pricing is said to starting at $199 (approximately Rs. 12,300) for the Galaxy S6 and $299 (approximately Rs. 18,400) for the Galaxy S6 Edge. Additionally, the report had claimed that the global launch details will be detailed by Samsung around April 10.
