Employees at STMicroelectronics' wafer fabs in Crolles, France, have gone on strike as a result of the reduction in an incentive bonus, according to reports.
A report authored by Laurent Capella, secretary general of the Collective Autonome Democratique de STMicroelectronics, known as DAC-ST, said workers went on strike on Wednesday night, Thursday morning and Thursday night reportedly because their annual incentive bonus had been reduced to about $550 for the lowest paid workers. At the same time that ST has been able to increase dividend payments and buy back shares and the reduced incentive represented a loss of about $1,100 for some workers, according to DAC-ST.
The strike has affected both the 200mm and 300mm wafers fabs (Crolles 1 and Crolles 2), DAC-ST said.
Industrial action is expected to continue.
