LED epitaxial wafer and chip makers Epistar and Lextar Electronics have seen increasing orders from Europe- and US-based LED lighting vendors, with shipments beginning to significantly rise in the second quarter of 2015 and expected to peak in the third quarter, according to the companies.
Epistar said it has cooperated with downstream LED packaging service providers for shipments to these LED lighting vendors. Most of the shipments are models with non-standard specifications and therefore offer higher gross margins, Epistar indicated, adding it expects its 2015 revenue proportion for LED lighting to rise to 35-40%.
Lextar said it expects orders from 4-5 new clients in the US and more than 10 regional lighting vendors in Europe, with LED light bulbs and downlights accounting for most of the shipments. Lextar's revenue proportion for LED lighting in 2015 may increase to 40%, the company indicated.
