Samsung Electronics, a South Korean multinational electronics company, has moved to make inroads into the market of premium memory card such as a storage device for ultra high definition video filming.
The electronics giant announced on Wednesday that it would launch a new high-efficient memory card in 53 countries around the world including Korea, US and China this month. The memory card is NAND Flash Memory which is used as an external memory for a smartphone or a data storage device embedded in digital cameras. The product which is to be released this time is the ‘PRO Plus’ for experts, which is available in 32GB and 64GB, and the ‘EVO Plus’ for general purpose, available in 32GB, 64GB and 128GB.
PRO Plus is a memory card with performance and capacity which meet conditions required by digital devices, where 4K UHD video filming is possible, such as DSLR cameras, action cameras, digital camcorders and smartphones.
4K is an image specification supporting 4096 x 2160 resolution, more than four times of full HD 1920×1080 resolution. It requires fast processing speed as the scale of data needed for the same time grows exponentially with resolution getting higher.
PRO Plus’s rates for reading and writing come to 95MB and 90MB per second, each, the highest level for memory card. The 64GB product could film a 4K video for up to 110 minutes.
