Samsung has already proven that it can make devices with curved displays, some more interesting than others, so it’s not surprising to hear the company might be developing the next big thing when it comes to flexible displays.
Samsung’s smartphone with a “possibly foldable” dual-screen display is known internally as Project Valley or Project V, according to information obtained by SamMobile. The device is in the “extremely early stages of development,” so it’s not clear if or when it’ll become an actual commercial product.
The blog says the new phone will support multiple gestures for switching between the two screens, so its codename indicates the phone could be foldable. Other details about the rumored handset haven’t been leaked yet, and there aren’t any pictures showing this Samsung prototype.
Previous rumors said Samsung would be interested in launching foldable devices by 2016, though Samsung is yet to actually confirm such reports.
The company did reveal previously that it’s interested in smartphones with foldable displays in addition to flexible screens and curved handsets, and it holds several patents that describe such concepts.
