SpaceX ready to launch again

Wednesday, September 30, 2015

Elon Musk's spaceflight company hit a serious snag earlier this summer when an unmanned rocket carrying supplies to the International Space Station exploded en route. The Falcon 9 was designed not only to carry cargo into space, but to safely return the rocket to earth rather than plummet to its doom.

Initial launches showed some promise but were ultimately unsuccessful. The June mission, however, only made it a couple of minutes before the rocket disintegrated. The failure stopped SpaceX in its tracks, jeopardizing dozens of planned launches and sparking speculation that customers could look elsewhere.

Over the weekend, however, SpaceX put a new and improved rocket through a successful test burn, and Musk said that the company should be ready to launch again in six to eight weeks.
