Hitachi Data Systems launched new family of all-flash arrays

Thursday, January 21, 2016

Hitachi Data Systems launched a new family of all-flash arrays in a sign that the storage giants have lined up behind solid-state storage.

HDS' announcement Tuesday builds on a launch in November.

The all-flash arrays are called Hitachi Flash Storage A and includes data services, protection and quality of service controls.

According to HDS the biggest theme is that its latest flash arrays take an appliance approach to lower the footprint. Deployment is also easier.

Among the key points:

•System performance data can be shared through multiple applications via HDS' Quality of Service Software.

•Services are available for in-line data deduplication, compression and replication.

•There are three models that can be use up to 60 solid state drives in a 2U tray. Effective capacity can be as high as 384TB.

The all-flash field is crowded with incumbents such as EMC, HDS, NetApp, IBM, HP, Dell and a host of others battling companies such as Pure Storage as well as Violin.
