The Taiwan government must form a "national team" in cooperation with local enterprises to meet increasing challenges amid the rising supply chain from China, president-elect Tsai Ing-wen said on March 3 during a tour to the Hsinchu Science Park (HSP).
The government must take a more positive role to safeguard Taiwan's semiconductor industry and maintain its edge in the field, Tsai said.
The semiconductor industry will play a cornerstone role to the five innovative industries - green energy, Asian Silicon Valley plan, national defense, biotechnology and medicare, and smart machinery - which the incoming government will foster to develop, Tsai said.
However, Tsai did not say whether Taiwan will open its door to China's investments in Taiwan's IC design industry.
Tsai pledged to create an environment to help the industry retain talent and offer stable water and electricity supplies to the industry.
