Key Intel executives to exit

Wednesday, April 6, 2016

Intel Corp. senior executives Kirk Skaugen and Doug Davis, who head two of the chipmaker’s biggest divisions, are leaving the company.

Skaugen, who was in charge of the company’s main personal-computer chip unit, is leaving “for his next career opportunity,” Intel said Monday in letter to employees. Davis, head of Intel’s Internet of Things group, is retiring at the end of the year, the company said.

The departure of the two follows last November’s appointment of former Qualcomm Inc. executive Murthy Renduchintala to a position above them, reporting directly to Intel Chief Executive Officer Brian Krzanich. The world’s largest chipmaker is shaking up its leadership as it tries to revitalize a slumping market for PC chips and make headway in new markets for its products.

Skaugen’s deputy, Navin Shenoy, is being promoted to replace him, the company said. Davis, who has been with Intel for 32 years, will remain in his job until a successor is found. Skaugen rose to prominence as leader of the company’s server chip business, a division that has secured more than 99 percent of its market and provides half of the corporation’s profits.

The announcement of the loss of more veteran leadership at Intel follows the resignation of Aicha Evans, the head of its struggling mobile phone chip business, according to people familiar with the situation.
