Leading chip maker AMD plans to makes inroads in India’s electronics sector and has tied up with HSMC for chip manufacturing in the country.
AMD CEO and president Lisa Su met telecom minister Ravi Shankar Prasad on Tuesday and apprised the minister about the company’s plans to set up a chip manufacturing plant. AMD representatives discussed matters related to semi-conductor policy and its fab proposal as well.
After the meeting the minister said the AMD wants to come to India in a big way. A top government official said AMD representatives discussed matters related to semi-conductor policy and its fab proposal.
The company told the minister of its commitment to transform India into electronics manufacturing hub.
AMD has entered into an MoU with HSMC to explore various options for providing technology licence to manufacture micro processors in the semi conductor fabs.
The demand for electronic products in India is expected to reach $400 billion by 2020.
The government is working to make India a big hub for electronics manufacturing and is offering incentives to companies to set their inafrastructure here.
