Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Co. (TSMC, ‘äÏ“d), the world's largest contract chip-maker and its smaller rival, United Microelectronics Corp. (UMC, —ü“d), said that the quake did not affect their operations.
TSMC said that its wafer plants located in the Hsinchu Science Park in Northern Taiwan, in the Central Taiwan Science Park and in the Southern Taiwan Science Park were operating normally.
For its part, UMC said that the quake did not affect its wafer plants in the Hsinchu Science Park or in the Southern Taiwan Science Park.
No impact from the earthquake was reported by two leading flat panel makers in Taiwan, Innolux Corp. (ŒQ‘n) and AU Optronics Corp. (AUO, —F’B).
Innolux said that the intensity in its plant located in Zhunan Township in Hsinchu was recorded at three, adding that an intensity of four or higher will trigger an automatic protection mechanism for its production facilities.
AUO said that its plants were working well despite the tremblor. The company has plants in Taoyuan, the Hsinchu Science Park and the Central Taiwan Science Park.
