DuPont recently announced a packaging film that the chemical giant believes will bolster protection against counterfeiting.
Company officials said that the new Izon 3D security film allows sophisticated anti-counterfeiting labels to be applied directly to product packaging atop text, bar codes or other images.
Izon 3D incorporates a holographic image that enables quick authorization yet disappears when viewed at a different angle in order to expose additional package information.
In addition, the film includes an image that appears to "float" when exposed to a pointed light source such as a flashlight, which will help inspectors quickly verify packages' authenticity.
“Izon 3D security film utilizes a patented DuPont imaging process to create a look that is clearly differentiated and truly 3D," DuPont Advanced Printing's Peter Waker said in a statement.
DuPont officials added that the embossed holographic films currently used to protect against counterfeiters are widespread and easy to copy.
The company is scheduled to debut the film at Germany's drupa trade fair later this month.
