Samsung to have bendable screen on smartphone

Thursday, June 9, 2016

Samsung appears poised to introduce new smartphones featuring bendable screens as early as next year.

Bloomberg, citing sources familiar with the matter, reported Monday that the Korean electronics giant is considering two new models that would utilize organic light-emitting diodes screens as part of “Project Valley."

One of the screens would effectively be able to fold in half, while the other could be expanded from a 5-inch handset screen to an 8-inch tablet-like display.

The bendable phones, the company's first to be commercially available, could be introduced as early as February at the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona.

Bloomberg indicated that timeline would give Samsung an advantage over Apple, which could roll out its own OLED smartphone screens later in the year.
