According to new reports that are surfacing in China, Meizu has managed to reach an agreement with Qualcomm. A couple of market analysts from China are reporting such news, and it is said that Meizu will officially announce the agreement before the end of this month. Now, that’s not the only piece of news analysts have shared, they’re also reporting that Meizu will introduce a Snapdragon-powered device, the Snapdragon 821 SoC in specific has been mentioned, which is the company’s most powerful chip at the moment. If true, these are great news for Meizu because Qualcomm has sued the company for 520 million Yuan ($78 million) for alleged patent infringement. According to Qualcomm, Meizu infringed on their 3G and 4G patents, but the lawsuit was applicable only on Meizu’s MediaTek-powered devices.
The company’s Vice President, Li Nan, had released an official statement regarding Qualcomm’s lawsuit back in June, and it was obvious that the company is looking to put all that behind them as soon as possible. Well, it seems like the issue has been resolved, and we’ll get far more info before the end of this month, and chances are that Meizu’s VP will release such info when the time comes. Now, Meizu is expected to release a high-end smartphone before the end of this year, and it will probably be called the Meizu PRO 6s. Rumors have been saying that this smartphone will be fueled by the Exynos 8890 64-bit octa-core SoC, which is quite probable, but it seems like Meizu might work on a Snapdragon (821)-powered smartphone as well which we might see released before the end of the year. Do take this info with a grain of salt though, we’re waiting to get more info from the company.
Meizu has been one of the fastest growing China-based smartphone manufacturers in the last couple of years. This company had managed to grow quite a bit, mainly due to their quality products which are not only well built, but also quite affordable. That being said, Meizu is still mainly limited to Asia as far as smartphone sales go, even though they’re selling their devices outside of Asia in some markets through various partners, their devices are available through Amazon, for example.
