Apple iPhone 8 is expected to launch with a radical new design next year, which also marks the 10th anniversary of company’s iPhone line-up. And people can’t stop talking about the upcoming iPhone. Now, according to a report in BGR, the Cupertino giant is working with Energous to introduce wireless charging technology for iPhone 8. If rumours are anything to go by, the wireless technology being developed by Apple is like no other we’ve seen yet. Apple iPhone 8 is said to come with a receiver inside it, which will connect to a transmitter plugged into wall socket to charge the device.

The iPhone 8 will charge wirelessly as long as you’re within 15 feet of the transmitter. “In other words, a view strategically placed base stations in your home and office could ensure that your iPhone is charging constantly while it’s in use or sitting in your pocket, on your desk or anywhere else,” the report said. Neither Apple nor Energous has come forward to confirm the report.

The concept of wireless charging has been there for a couple of years now. Samsung was the first major player to introduce dual wireless charging for its Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 edge. The circular pad charges smartphones without the need to connect your device to a cable. There’s charging stand and charging pads that support up to 3 devices as well. However, all of these are required to connect to a socket via cable before they can charge a smartphone wirelessly. Apple’s concept on the other hand totally eliminates the need of cables to charge iPhone.

Earlier reports suggest iPhone 8 will feature a glass back and an OLED display. According to Ming-Chi Kuo of KGI securities, the 2017 iPhone will not be featuring an aluminium back – instead the phone will come with a glass back (reportedly developed by Biel and Lens). A report from Nikkei has shared a statement from a Sharp executive (Sharp is an Apple supplier) who said that the 2017 iPhone will be adopting an OLED display. Another Nekkei report has said that there will be an additional screen size for the iPhone 8 – a 5-inch version, and might also feature a 2.5D glass.
