Qualcomm today announced that it has teamed up with studio Lionsgate to produce a Power Rangers VR experience that will be showcased at the Consumer Electronics Show 2017 in Las Vegas next month. The VR experience is meant to highlight the performance of Qualcomm’s upcoming Snapdragon 835 processor which is going to power many flagship mobile devices in the coming year. The VR experience itself is based on Lionsgate’s Saban’s Power Rangers which is the feature film adaptation of the infamous property that’s going to be released in theaters across the globe on March 24th, 2017.
“We’re happy to be working with Lionsgate to create an exciting virtual reality experience for Power Rangers fans through the technologies we’ve implemented on Snapdragon 835,” said Mike Finley, senior vice president and president of Qualcomm Technologies.
The video VR experience and Power Rangers 3D graphics will highlight some of the improvements that Qualcomm has made in the Snapdragon 835 that enable the processor to support immersive audio, high VR frame rates, enhanced 3D graphics with real-time rendering and HD video content.
The Power Rangers VR experience is going to be showcased at the Qualcomm Technologies CES booth #10948 in the Central Hall of the Las Vegas Convention Center. The company has said that it’s going to showcase this VR experience elsewhere, including China.
Do note that CES is only open to members of the industry and the press, not the general public, so you just can’t turn up at the Las Vegas Convention Center if you want to take this VR experience for a spin. You’ll have to wait until Qualcomm figures out how it’s going to let the public in on this.
