Taiwan-based memory module maker Apacer Technology has decided to kick off volume production of server and industrial control DDR4-2666 memory modules to cash in on the replacement demand following the rollout of the latest Intel Purley and AMD Epyc server processors.
DDR4-2666 is expected to emerge as the mainstream spec for memory products after Intel and AMD launch their new-generation server processors that can support transmission speed of up to 2666 MT/s, according to MH Huang, director of the firm's vertical market applications department. She said that DDR4-2666 is 11% better than DDR4-2400 in terms of transmission velocity, performance and power consumption.
Huang continued that Apacer can offer a full range of DDR4-2666 native memory modules ranging in capacity from 2GB to 64GB, and will stand to benefit from the next wave of replacement demand for servers, industrial computers and smart devices.
Company president CK Chang also noted that Apacer will see revenue growth mainly driven by demand from the datacenter, consumer gaming and industrial control sectors in 2018. He said before international major DRAM makers start commercial run of their new capacities in the fourth quarter of the year, the supply of DRAM products for industrial control and server uses will stay short of demand.
