Samsung Electronics Co. said Wednesday it started mass production of 32GB DDR4 modules designed for high-performance gaming laptops and boasting faster speed and better energy efficiency compared to the previous 16GB versions.
The South Korean tech giant said it started production of the industry's first 10-nano level 32GB DDR4 small outline dual in-line memory module (SODIMM). Samsung said the product provides optimized performances for premium gaming laptops, allowing users to play various titles more smoothly.
The 32GB DDR4 is equipped with 16 units of 10-nano level 16Gb DDR4 DRAM chips. Users can experience the speed of 2,666Mbps on gaming laptops through Samsung's latest solution.
The company first released the 16GB module in 2014. The latest solution has doubled the capacity and improved speed by 11 percent, the company added.
Samsung said computer manufacturers can install two units of 32GB DDR4 modules on their products, expanding the capacity to 64GB.
A laptop with two units of the 32GB module can save power by 39 percent when in operation, compared to those with four units of 16GB modules, it said.
"By releasing the industry's only 32GB DRAM module, gamers can enjoy top-notch titles under more realistic environments on laptops," Samsung said, claiming the company will continue to release more solutions with improved performance in terms of speed and capacity.
