Southwest Airlines and Lyft are new partners in travel on the air and on the ground.
The partnership is a big boost for Lyft, which has been aggressively trying to catch up to its larger competitor Uber for the past couple of years.
Southwest (NYSE: LUV) said information for requesting a ride with Lyft should appear in the airline’s mobile app within four hours of a flight that a customer may have booked on Southwest. The messaging on the app will encourage Southwest passengers to consider Lyft rideshare service to or from the airport.
For added convenience, the Southwest app will show estimated travel time to or from the airport via Lyft and the estimated cost of the ride.
But Southwest noted that customers will need to be logged into the carrier’s mobile app with location services turned on to take full advantage of the new Lyft service in conjunction with Southwest.
Ryan Green, chief marketing officer at Southwest, said of the new partnership: “At Southwest, we’re always looking for innovative ways to enhance our customer experience from the moment someone considers travel to the moment when they land at their destination. Our new integration with Lyft aims to make this particular part of the travel experience seamless by starting and ending a customer’s journey with just a tap of a button.”
